Components
The MSG facility was developed by the European Space Agency and delivered to the Space Station in June 2002. Components of the glovebox include the following:
- Core facility
- Extendable and retractable work volume area
- Fully extended position allows access to side loading ports for installation of larger experiment equipment
- Nominal operations position (half the side loading port exposed) provides comfortable working interface for the crew
- Work volume
- Control and Monitoring Panel
- Air handling unit
- Airlock - The Airlock allows safe transfer of objects into the work volume without breaking containment.
- Stowage drawers (3)
- Powered video drawer containing 4 video cameras, 4 recorders, 2 monitors (digital or 8 mm), and both a standard and wide-angle lenses for each camera.
- MSG laptop computer (MLC)
- Standard payload outfitting equipment (SPOE)
- Additional on-orbit support equipment
